I started boxing at the age of 13. Back then, it was called Kirov's Gym, and it was one of the leading gyms at the time in the 1990s. My first coaches were Guram Takhtakishvili and Nodar Kikava. Both were members of the Soviet national team. Nodar was older and competed in the lightweight category. He had special skills in footwork and taught it very well, which helped me greatly on my path of development.
In 1995, I won the Georgian Championship and joined the national team as a school student. Then, I moved to the youth national team and eventually became a member of the senior national team.
At that time, we didn’t have the luxury of traveling abroad for competitions, but we still managed to participate. We went to the European Championship in Hungary and the World Championship in Cuba, Havana. Unfortunately, I returned without a medal, but I gained a lot of experience. I also participated in other international tournaments, including the A-class Atatürk Tournament in Turkey in 1997, where I won a gold medal. That was a very pleasant and significant moment for me.
In 1998, I moved to Kuwait and took over one of the clubs. I worked with children aged 12 and older. After 3 years of work, the majority of Kuwait’s national team was made up of my trainees. They became champions of the Arabian Gulf and medalists at the Asian Championships.
Later, I joined the Kuwait national team and continued my work until 2013.
